I’m pet sitting in Connecticut for a few days. I started out the front door to get something from the camper, and there were five turkeys strolling across the yard! Retreating back behind the screen, I pulled out the camera and got a few shots as they walked out into the road, and then up the driveway to check out my Roadtrek,
and then off toward the woods. They sped up considerably when a couple of young men on bicycles came whizzing past, making gobbling noises!
We had a rafter of turkeys in our side yard this week. We live in the country, though, so not as surprising! But we had never seen them so close to the house.

My best turkey sighting ever was to drive up my driveway – led by a strutting tom with tail in full display! I didn’t have the camera with me, and might well have been too awe-struck to get a photo through the windshield.

What a wonderful sight! I haven’t seen turkeys around like that since many years ago when I visited a friend in Texas.

We never had turkeys when I was a kid in New England, but they have made a comeback, and are a common sight now. Did they ever live in the Pacific Northwest?

Not that I know of. It’s good that they are coming back so well.

We counted over thirty walk across our yard a few weeks ago. I think the flocks are combining for winter already.
