Kayaking at Silver Lake State Park, Vermont

Friday, June 18: Silver Lake State Park has a very popular swimming area, as well as picnicking, camping, paddle boat, kayak and canoe rentals, and hiking trails. On my way north to visit with my sister and brother-in-law, I was able to spend a couple of hours kayaking, a swim long enough to cool off (although I will admit I spent more time standing in cool water up to my armpits than I did swimming!), and an hour of sitting under the trees on a point along the lake with my knitting. About one third of the coast of this small lake is undeveloped:

What caught my attention this time was the variety of wildflowers along the shoreline.

There was one very odd little niche – maybe had a boat house once? It’s almost completely obscured by shrubs at its entrance.

It was a very pleasant day. High clouds moved in, keeping the sun from being too hot, and by the time I left in the late afternoon, it was almost completely clouded over. This lake has few power boats, but lots of paddle craft. And all the way across the lake, I could hear the shrieks and giggles of young people enjoying the beach area!
